René Schippers is director of Electronic Record Services BV. He holds a Master degree in Public Health from the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Groningen and works in health IT for 20 years. He launched the virtual EHR concept as a regional collaboration initiative for sharing medical data in The Netherlands in 1996 and produced software for part of (Lab domain) the virtual-EHR. In his commercial career he successfully established launching customers for three different EHR/PHR/CR systems. He is President of the EN13606 Association and President of ProRec-NL.
Gerard Freriks is director of ERS BV. For 40 years he is active in health IT. Trained in medicine he was General Practitioner for 20 years. From 1999 until 2007 he worked for a Dutch contract research organisation (TNO) on topics related with the EHR and quality of IT in Healthcare. Since 1996 he was active in HL7, co-founder of the SGML/XML Special Interest Group that transformed into the Structured Development Technical Committee. From 1996 until 2007 he was active in Working Group 1; from 1999 until 2007 he acted as chairman of this WG and was responsible for the production of several European standards among which the EN13606 EHR-Communication standard.
